Junior Choir

Junior Choir

Cornwall Junior Choir was established in January 2001, as part of a major new initiative to boost singing in Cornish Primary Schools. It was awarded a grant from the National Foundation for Youth Music as part of the foundation’s Singing Challenge programme. The choir initially stemmed from a partnership between Truro Cathedral and the Cornwall Music Service Department and comprises youngsters from all over Cornwall.

The Choir has performed in a variety of venues, from the traditional Truro Cathedral, to the more exotic, Tate St Ives, from Gwennap Pit to The National Maritime Museum. They have sung in Gloucester and Exeter Cathedrals and on Scilly, all the while sharing what they have learned with their audiences, and building their confidences and skills.

Under Angela Renshaw's directorship (since 2009) the choir has had the opportunity to sing with Aled Jones and take part in a 'Children in Need' concert alongside their annual commitments.

From September 2015, the support structure of the choir altered slightly, retaining our close links with the Cathedral, but coming under the 'Cornwall Music Service Trust' umbrella. This promises to offer the choir the most secure future and we hope for great things going forward.

May 2019

Dear All,

Looking forward to seeing you all after the Easter break, hopefully refreshed and ready for plenty of singing!

This term we are delighted that Jo Saville will be leading the choir. Jo has recently joined CMST (Cornwall Music Service Trust) teaching vocals and woodwind amongst other things. She is a qualified classroom teacher, great musician and has a broad range of musical skills and experience. We are really excited to welcome her to our small group.

Below are all the dates and rehearsal venues that have been arranged for this term.

As previously, rehearsals run from 10-11.30am (unless otherwise indicated by letter, on the website or via the notice displayed on the entrances to the Cathedral) drop off at the Cathedral, pick up from the Cathedral car park.It is important that we all meet in one place!– you will be notified of any changes. Please remember that there are no parking facilities available at the Cathedral for Junior Choir parents.

As always, please encourage anyone who might like to be part of the choir to come along to a rehearsal to see what it is like, the first and second Saturdays of term will be held as ‘open rehearsals’, so the more the merrier.

If you have any concerns or questions, do not hesitate to contact me at any time, I will do my best to help.

With every good wish, on behalf of Cornwall Junior Choir
