Cornwall Junior Choir was established in January 2001, as part of a major new initiative to boost singing in Cornish Primary Schools. It was awarded a grant from the National Foundation for Youth Music as part of the foundation’s Singing Challenge programme. The choir initially stemmed from a partnership between Truro Cathedral and the Cornwall Music Service Department and comprises youngsters from all over Cornwall.
The Choir has performed in a variety of venues, from the traditional Truro Cathedral, to the more exotic, Tate St Ives, from Gwennap Pit to The National Maritime Museum. They have sung in Gloucester and Exeter Cathedrals and on Scilly, all the while sharing what they have learned with their audiences, and building their confidences and skills.
Under Angela Renshaw's directorship (since 2009) the choir has had the opportunity to sing with Aled Jones and take part in a 'Children in Need' concert alongside their annual commitments.
From September 2015, the support structure of the choir altered slightly, retaining our close links with the Cathedral, but coming under the 'Cornwall Music Service Trust' umbrella. This promises to offer the choir the most secure future and we hope for great things going forward.
Angela is a teacher at Truro School Preparatory where she is in charge of curriculum music as well as the development of the schools’ choirs. She is the Cornwall Music Education Hub Lead for the Vocal Strategy Development Programme for Cornwall, and delivers training across Cornwall to children, teachers and singing leaders as well as having responsibility for developing and directing the Cornwall County Choirs, Cornwall Boys Choir, Cornwall Girls Choir and Cornwall County Youth Choir. Angela has worked as leader of Cornwall Junior Choir since 2009.

There are now about 20 of us aged 7-13 and we come from all over Cornwall
We sing a wide variety of music - from traditional Christmas carols like 'Away in a Manger' and the 'Star Carol', and traditional folk songs from all over the world.
You're welcome to come along any Saturday in term-time from 10.00 - 11.30 at Truro Cathedral. We meet just inside the main west door.
Choir secretary Julia Carter and musical director Angela Renshaw will be there to welcome you and answer any questions about the choir's organisation and activities.
The 20-strong mixed choir always welcomes new members. Anyone aged from 7 to 13 years can join. Young singers come from all over Cornwall every week for expert tuition under the musical director.
Membership is only £40 a term and there are no auditions
