Cornwall Youth Chamber Choir is for young people aged 13 and up, with most of its members being in the 14 to 18 bracket.
We welcome people who are experienced musicians (whether instrumentalists or singers) and those who would simply like to learn.
The choir was started in January 2008 by Christopher Gray, and the directorship was taken over by Christine Judge (Curriculum and Vocal Team Manager Cornwall Music Service Trust), in partnership with Luke Bond at the same time as the Choir was taken on by the Cornwall Music Service Trust, offering it the most secure of futures.
Luke Bond has now taken up a post at St George’s Chapel, Windsor, and Christine is being supported by members of the Music Service Trust and a couple of the Cathedral’s Choral scholars. It now has around 25 members.
They meet for rehearsals on Thursday evenings during term time, from 6.30 pm until 8.00 pm at Truro Cathedral (entry via the Crypt door in the Cathedral car park)
The choir performs a wide range of music, from traditional classical pieces (Handel’s Zadok The Priest, Mozart’s Ave Verum and Haydn’s The Heavens Are Telling) to modern music (Eric Whitacre’s The Seal Lullaby, John Rutter’s Look At The World and Russell Pascoe’s Celtic Blessing). There are also a few lighter songs (choral arrangements of You Raise Me Up, Goodnight Sweetheart and And So It Goes) and folksong arrangements (Londonderry Air)
Concert venues have included Truro Cathedral, Carnglaze Caverns, The Eden Project, Tate St Ives and lots of churches (Lanlivery, Tregony, Perranzabuloe, Bodmin and more).
Here are the rehearsal commitments for the coming term. As previously, rehearsals run from 6.30 to 8pm. Please enter and leave the Cathedral via the Crypt door located off the car park at the rear of the building. Occasionally, rehearsals are held in the Pearson Room or elsewhere, this is entered via the wooden door opposite the entrance to the Cathedral Car park, drop off and pick up locations remain the same.
Please remember to support the Youth Chamber Choir Website and Facebook page, it is important that we keep a high profile so please make every effort to attend rehearsals and Concerts. The Cornwall Youth Chamber Choir is also on Twitter, so please follow!

The choir performs a wide range of music, from traditional classical pieces (Handel's Zadok the Priest, Mozart's Ave verum and Haydn's The heavens are telling) to modern music (Eric Whitacre's The Seal Lullaby, John Rutter's Look at the world and Russell Pascoe's Celtic Blessing). There are also a few lighter songs (choral arrangements of You raise me up, Goodnight, sweetheart and And so it goes) and folksong arrangements (Londonderry Air and Shenandoah).
The standard is high, but new members arrive with different levels of experience, from those who like singing but have done very little, to those who have a lot of experience as singers or instrumentalists.
The choir is unique in that it provides young singers in Cornwall with the opportunity to perform with the Cathedral's outstanding gap year Choral Scholars (young musicians who come to Truro from all over the UK and further afield to be part of the renowned Cathedral Choir).
Membership of the choir costs £40 per term.
